Fundamentals of photography

So, what is it?

The Fundamentals of Photography is a six-week guided online course that will give you the knowledge and confidence start using your camera to capture your own meaningful moments.

Purchase course

And, who is it for?

We created this course because our couples would tell us how they got a new camera – or have one sitting in their closet – but they don't bring it anywhere because they struggle to take the pictures they always imagined.

Cameras can be complicated machines, so most new camera owners will end up going back to their  phones. Which, hey, nothing against phone pics! But there's more to photography than what the latest smartphone technology offers us.

This course is for those who want to understand the fundamentals, take control of their camera, and use it to turn their ordinary moments into an extraordinary reality.

As a group, we will all start the course together on July 18. HOWEVER! The weekly video lessons are pre-recorded and can be watched on your own schedule.

Prefer learning over your morning coffee? Do that. Night owl? Live your best life. Set aside 10 minutes a day or a one-hour learning session per week. Learn photography on your own schedule while still being supported by us.

Can I watch the lessons on my own time?

There's no shortage online photography education, but we found that not everyone learns by sitting alone watching hours of YouTube videos. We created this course to give quality information with professional guidance that will get you using your camera fast.

By limiting the delivery of our photography course to intakes we can ensure that you will receive the most valuable learning experience and start using your camera with confidence in just six weeks.

Why not make the course always available?

Most of the pre-recorded video lessons are less than 4 minutes. Session Walkthroughs are longer as we take you into the camera and through our thought process as we shoot and edit.

While creating this course, we wanted to be sensitive to different learning styles. Whether you prefer short info dumps, long walk-throughs videos, live mentor sessions, written information, or learning through practice, we have you covered.

How long are the lessons?

We are hosting Live Mentor Sessions via Zoom because it's our best opportunity to connect with you. The recorded video lessons are designed to deliver all of the most vital information, while the Mentor Sessions allow us to provide further context, clarification, and answer your questions.

We will schedule the Mentor Sessions to be at a time when it is most convenient for the majority of students, but if you can't make we will record it for you to watch on your own time.

What if I can't make it to the Live Sessions?

Short answer: NO!

We find Facebook to be full of distractions that end up diluting the learning experience.

Instead, we will host a private network through a provider we pay for. It will be integrated with your video lessons, and will be a great space for you to connect with your peers, share your progress, and stay accountable to learning.

Do I need Facebook to access the community?

Again, short answer: NO! Photography is first and foremost a science, so whether your camera is 10 years old or 10 weeks old, the same principles still apply. Newer tech might make taking pictures a little easier, but old DSLRs are still perfectly good cameras.

All Early Bird students will receive a free personalized gear consultation. Based on your current gear and your photography goals, we'll make recommendations for your next purchase.

Do I need a new camera?

We bet that learning how to use your camera is something you've been putting off for a while now, so we don't want you to drag out any longer. But we understand that life happens, summers get busy, and savouring our precious patio days is necessary.

If at any point you have to drop out, the course access will remain yours and you can come back to it at any time. You'll just miss out on the active support and community aspects of the course. Just note: there are no refunds or exchanges.

What if I can't finish the six weeks?
